check-in!

I am not a keen traveller, but i work in the hotelier industry. There are MANY things that traveller doesnt know, no matter how KEEN a traveller you are, you will always miss a thing or two. TRUST me on this. Its annoying i know, but its even more annoying having to deal with people at the front desk upon arrival. There are things that you need to know before you choose a hotel, before you check-in, during your stay and upon check-out. You dont have to know it by heart, but please, be aware of it cause sometimes its just a bloody common sense.

1. Before you make a reservation, do a thorough survey on the hotel. i mean THOROUGH! Know what to expect and what not to expect. The stupidest idea a guest can have is to think that utilities in 2 stars hotel DO match a 4 stars hotel. i say FORGET THAT! we dont have a bloody bell boy in 2 stars hotel. Dhuh??

2. Read the description of the room. READ the description properly, and while ure at it, please use your brain too! The same Double room, can come in either basic or ensuite. There MUST be a reason why BASIC is CHEAPER than ENSUITE. Instead of checking out what makes the different, you go for the cheaper one. Well honey, aint blaming you. Its cheaper, and its the same room, only it comes with a different name.

BASIC = WITHOUT SHOWER/TOILET IN THE ROOM.
ENSUITE = WITH SHOWER/TOILET IN THE ROOM.

3. You just dont expect a 5 stars service in 2 stars hotel. They wont provide you with a flat screen TV in the room, or sometimes not even syampoo! Yes, the TV is cheap or secondhand or whatever, but its WORKING! so, be patient and deal with it yourself, before you arrogantly complaint and demand a technician, especially when all he has to do is to plug it back, cause unfortunately its accidentally unplug when the housekeepers are cleaning the room! COMMON SENSE much...no?

4. Stop complaining about the breakfast. YES, it will only be continental breakfast in ALL budget hotels. Toasted bread, eggs and cereals. If you're lucky enough, they'll probably have chocolate spread or maybe croissants. So eat up or go and get big breakfast from McDonalds.

5. Always read the HOTEL POLICY. ALWAYS, ALWAYS read the HOTEL POLICY. I am stressing the word "always" cause unfortunately, you will not win without reading the policy honey. You've signed the hotel registration form, you've agreed to the terms and conditions of the hotel, so you lawfully bound to comply with it. No one force you to put up at the hotel on the first place

6. Yes, i know some receptionists are just getting on your nerves, but if you know your way out, it cannot be that bad. i also understand that sometimes, they are not being co-operative, but if you asked them to get towels at 2am because you just HAVE to DO IT at 2am? thats ridiculous!

7. Make sure you have your I.D. and Credit Card that you used to make the reservation. Its crucial to have them both with you upon check-in. What some guest dont understand is that, its a hotel policy that we are trying to protect our hotel and NOT because we think you look like a crook!

8. Make sure you check everything, before you submit PROCEED. Stop acting smart thinking that you know what has been done or which has been paid on the bill or transaction. Always check the amount that you've already paid upon reservation, or if there's balance on the total payment, please check the balance that you should be paying upon check-in is the right amount printed. To be on the safe side, just print out the main page with them figures before you get yourself on that flight! Well, if you're so stingy and perhaps, environmentally friendly, just have them email on your phone or laptop. Well, its almost 2020, i am sure everyone have email on their phone these days.

9. Lastly, please DONT TRY TO BE SMART! They've been at the front desk for years, they know what they're doing and for what reason they're doing it. So stop questioning them like you've been in their shoes before. Even if you do, different hotels have different policies.

Well, my advice are

  • read reviews
  • check picture reviews (if any)
  • read hotel descriptions
  • check rates at different websites
  • read the hotel policy

These are the simplest sequences i can think of when you're staying at a hotel,

CHECK IN / ENJOY / CHECK OUT..

have a good holiday!!

...and thats, if u follow my advice!

ps: i've come across an idiot who claimed that he doesnt have cash with him and that his credit card has been frozen by the bank. cut the bull shit, and make sure u have enough cash and other spare credit cards while travelling..JUST IN CASE!!
